The European Union has proposed to the United Kingdom that it be possible to revert to an earlier version of the "safety net" of the Brixet Agreement, which has become the main stumbling block in the negotiations, becoming not only limited to Northern Ireland.
EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier on Friday offered the United Kingdom the possibility of returning to a previous version of the "safety net" in the Brixett agreement, becoming not limited to Northern Ireland.
"The European Union pledges to give the United Kingdom the possibility of leaving the unified customs zone unilaterally," Barnier wrote in a chant after a meeting with ambassadors of the 27 countries in Brussels.
A spokesman for the European Union said he intended to talk about "Britain, not the United Kingdom."
