Pope Francis on Sunday makes a historic visit to Ceuta and Melilla

The same sources speculated that 500 people from Ceuta alone would be able to receive the pope in Rabat. The visit would not include Casablanca as expected. According to the official program of the visit, the Pope and his entourage are expected to arrive at Rabat-Salé airport on Saturday (March 30th) at around 2 pm Moroccan time, where he will receive an official reception, such as dignitaries visiting Morocco, as head of the Vatican. Half an hour later, the royal palace in Rabat will see the welcoming ceremony of the Pope and his accompanying delegation, which will be received by King Mohammed VI.

It is worth mentioning that the Vatican chose for this visit a slogan entitled "Pope Francis Servant of Hope Morocco 2019".

The slogan of the pope's visit to Morocco was chosen from among 50 participants in a competition dedicated to this purpose. The explanatory remark accompanying the logo says that the cross and the crescent, which were adopted in the formation of the emblem, symbolize Islam and Christianity and indicate the religious coexistence between Muslims and Christians. The reliance on the red and green colors in the logo is interpreted to the colors of Morocco, while the yellow and white background colors of the Vatican. The Vatican said that the word "Morocco" in Arabic was "in honor of this country which hosts the Pope."

Pope Francis' visit to Morocco comes at the official invitation of King Mohammed VI and the bishops of Morocco through the Vatican representative in Rabat. While the visit was thought to include Casablanca, it is clear through the official program that it will be confined to Rabat, focusing on issues related to religious coexistence and migration issues.
